View Full Version : Are the OEM 96 A4 wheels painted/clearcoated, or are they polished?? MM120 10-08-2003, 07:25 AM Mr.D-'97 A4q 12v 10-08-2003, 07:34 AM Bling, bling. (sorry Kenny) =) MM120 10-08-2003, 07:44 AM Do you know the answer or not??? ;0) Mr.D-'97 A4q 12v 10-08-2003, 07:57 AM MM120 10-08-2003, 08:54 AM Brdman* 10-08-2003, 10:30 AM Wurth wheel paint, or Griots Garage Silver metallic is the OEM paint. MM120 10-08-2003, 11:04 AM Now if I can find someone who sells it around here. Brdman* 10-08-2003, 12:31 PM Wurth has a distribution center in Chicago. Griots Garage, believe it or not, had the best price. I think they just 're-brand' the Wurth stuff. Made in Germany. MM120 10-08-2003, 01:13 PM It's a nice site, thanks for the referral! Brdman* 10-08-2003, 01:17 PM in the repaint process as we speak! get some scratch fill primer from the local auto store aswell. MM120 10-08-2003, 01:23 PM I used a generic clear coat & it turned brownish-yellow. It was nasty. So last night I sprayed it with some aircraft remover. I'm gonna repaint it w/ the DupliColor minus the clear until the Griot's comes in just so it won't look so stupid. It's vain, I know, but I'm just weird like that. moribundman 10-08-2003, 01:25 PM According to the tracker it left Harrisburg, PA six days ago. Should be here on Friday. I can't wait! MM120 10-08-2003, 01:43 PM that aluminum flexes & the chrome will crack & flake before too long. I used to electroplate gold & chrome, but got tired of it. Now my machine is collecting dust. MM120 10-08-2003, 01:46 PM I heard he was gonna start franchising due to all of the free publicity he's getting here. :0) moribundman 10-08-2003, 01:53 PM But Mr. D must have sent it to the Marx Brothers. :-P MM120 10-08-2003, 01:55 PM Mr.D-'97 A4q 12v 10-08-2003, 01:55 PM After he got into an accident the body shopped polished his wheels for him. Those are off the A8 and weren't so highly polished before. Not my style but I actually think it looks pretty good. MM120 10-08-2003, 01:55 PM MM120 10-08-2003, 01:56 PM kennyc 10-08-2003, 06:11 PM As Mr. D said, I was in an accident. Before and after Evidently the wheel place cannot replicate the OEM satin polish finish. And since 2 wheels needs repolishing. They repaired and then polished all 4 wheels. I do prefer the oem polish. But since I bought these rims used and they are pretty scratched up already I did not complain much. It really does not look as bad in person... :) Mr.D-'97 A4q 12v 10-08-2003, 06:12 PM kennyc 10-08-2003, 06:13 PM MM120 10-08-2003, 06:28 PM moribundman 10-09-2003, 03:42 AM MM120 10-09-2003, 08:12 AM & low & behold I read the directions (which I commonly refuse to do because, let's face it, I'm a man). Upon reading the directions I think I discovered why my wheel turned a dirty brown/yellow. It was a divine revelation when it said DO NOT USE ENAMEL CLEAR PAINT WITH THIS PAINT. Sometimes I'm amazed when I follow directions. It's like the time it takes to read them will rob my life of a few worthless seconds I would've wasted anyway. Well, it looks good now. Just in time to resand it for the new paint/clear to come in next week. And no, I didn't spray it with clear enamel this time. |
