so I developed this loud "clunk" when i come to a stop. one of the suspension componets have excess play, but can't pinpoint which one. seems different then control arm, and only noticable when going over bumps in slow speed and coming to a stop. had the car on lift twice, used bar to move control arms, but everything seems tight.
anyone have ideas on what might be causing this? could it be lower ball joints? what are the syptoms of lower ball joints?
TIA

If the car bounces more than once the shocks are not good. Also, check the shock for leaks.
Could the noise come from an an engine/tranny mount? Maybe check if the front stabilizer bar (rubber bushings!) is loose.

My car seems to do something similar when taking off and stoping a clunk sound also there is a vibration/rattle when going over bumps I've checked the play in the tire when up on a lift seemed ok What do you think maybe a shock needs replacing? TIA, Noel

Does it only happen when coming to a stop? If so you might want to chekc all your caliper bolts, and the carrier bolts. I had a carrier bolt come loose on my 90. It would make a clunking noise whenever brakes were applied..
Just something else to keep in mind..

Check the ball joint and rubber boot, often times they are shot and it causes a "slight" movement which feels like a clunk.

but if i ease up coming to a stop, its not noticeable. however, i will be going to a vw/audi mech Sat. and see if he can figure it out. if not, i'll have to bring it to the dealer to have it diagnose and see what the problem is. this problem is driving me crazy and have me worry that it might cause my wheel to fall off. anyways, i'll keep you guys informed when i find out.
