I am thinking.... What feedback from the car do I need to work on advancing the timing using a piggy back computer?

I take it I need to know Air/fuel mixture right? If I'm getting detonation or ping (vag com)
RPM (vag com)

Since the SMT-6 is cheap like $350, I am thinking, maybe I'll buy one, connect it, and then work at doing my own programming on it, the software is free, I actually have it on this computer.

What would be nice is if we could program it on the local garage's dyno with a FWD 12v A4. That would be some work but it would be possible. I bet I could slip them a $100 to keep the place open late one evening while I tuned the engine.

I have no reason for it though... I just think it would be cool to look at.
