Is it possible to change the timing belt without removing the front bumper?
I saw miktip picture (couple threads below->torque wrench), it looks like that he only had the fan removed.
y'all have been very helpful. Thanks ;)

On an A4 you want the radiator support panel in the service position. That means you can swing the radiator out of the way. The job will be a lot easier and faster if you have easy access with a clear view of what's in front of you.

If you have never before replaced the timing belt all by yourself, then you may want to get a buddy who can help you. It's a fairly big job that will take you about 8 to 10 hours. Don't forget that it's not just the belt that should be replaced, but a few other associated parts as well. I don't think you should do that job outside.

There's a few special tools you'll need also. There's a bar that locks the cam on each bank in place that you'll need. While you're in there, you will want to change the timing belt tensioner and water pump, thermostat and misc. gaskets.
After you're done, you'll want to carefully bleed all of the air out of the cooling system. It'll take a while since there's plenty of places for air to become trapped.
I don't have the tools or knowledge to do this, so I just let my trusty Audi mechanic take care of this for me!

Here are a few tech articles which will help you.
These two are for the 1.8T but they will give you an idea of how to get the car apart:
<a href="http://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng31.shtml">1.8T Timing Belt #1</a>
<a href="http://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng35.shtml">1.8T Timing Belt #2</a>
Here's another one for the A6 2.8. The engine part is similar, but not the same:

And, Yes, you need to remove the bumper, AC consenser, radiator, and lock carrier (the thing that the radiator attaches to). Don't know where you are but if you can get down in my hood, I'd be happy to help you. I have the necessary tools and a garage. I've done the change twice and the last time I did this was to help someone and it took 12 hours with a few trips to the store.
