View Full Version : Some 0-60 times for the new Stage 2+ TB...

Tonight I finished up my Stage 2+ TB for my car. Got tired of wondering how it feels since the only other one in the world sits on someone else's car.

And in fairness before spouting numbers I must confess that I bored the secondary bore +.158" (4mm) oversize on mine but not the original one. Figured if it failed or stumbled all over itself I could always sleeve it back to stock I.D. I then finished up with the 3-stage finish hone but no additional polishing.

My 0-60 times will seem slower than what you've seen posted due to several factors. First I'm at just shy of 6,000 ft elevation so I take the 3% per 1k ft elevation penalty right off the top for a normally aspirated engine. The second thing is I do a no-throttle clutch release then step on it rather than a burn out or high rev launch. I'm looking for comparative differences rather than fastest 0-60 times. Burnout or "chirp" type launches are impossible to duplicate from one run to the next, let alone over 6-10 runs, not to mention it's abusive as hell on the car. This method while slower is a HELLUVA lot more consistant

My stock 96 A4 with new plugs, ign wires, stock air filter and stock throttle body at 70*F w/91 octane hits 60mph in 11.21 seconds.

Same car with maxed-out Stage 1 TB, MAF inlet at (MAF screen installed) 72*F w/91 octane averages 60mph in 10.47 seconds (-.74 seconds faster than stock)

Tonight: Stage 2+ TB w/4mm larger secondary, MAF inlet w/o MAF screen at 68*F. I blasted 8 runs between 9.48 (fastest) and 9.72 (slowest).

Those numbers translate to an average of 1.61 seconds faster than stock TB and .87 seconds faster than the maxed-out Stage 1 TB.

This thing flat hauls ass now. And it screams audibly, even with the stock paper filter element. STRONG pull from 3800 to redline. MAJOR difference over Stage 1 TB and the stock TB just seems silly at this point.

Frankly I'm very very surprised. I was expecting something on the order of .20-.25 seconds quicker than Stage 1.

If my math is correct these numbers should be right at a 15% increase in HP over stock which would make an otherwise stock 2.8 12v 200HP at the crank and 150 HP at the wheels @25% driveline loss.

I'm REALLY excited about the soon-to-come dyno run with these numbers in hand. If his car hits the 150HP mark I'm halfway to my goal: make Audis advertised crank HP number (174) at the wheels without going internal on the engine and for sub $2k. Right now I'm at $715 out-of-pocket for TB, MAF inlet, Samco elbows & connector. I've still got upstream of the airbox to go before completing induction system. Oh and that pesky and highly restrictive MAF unit... dunno how I'm going to approach that yet.

Now if UPS would just get me my 3.25" silicone induction hose that was supposed to show today and didn't. I'll bet there's at least another 5-7 ponies hiding in that Samco Sport stuff.

Exciting stuff this!
