Since you seem to have everything on file, what coolant sensor is in the bottom of the expansion tank? I have had the connector fall off several times, but I never noticed any ill effect.

It was used by Audi to give you a dash light when the coolant tank drops low. Some Audi's have the dash light, some dont. All Audi expansion tanks have the sensor, but not all Audi's will give you the light! ;O)

Drain the tank, with the plug on, allowing electrical connection to ground, and I bet you get a light? ;O)
