View Full Version : Does anyone have the modified throttle body that URs4 is working on? Mr.D-'97 A4q 12v 03-13-2003, 06:54 PM I was thinking about buying a used TB and sending it to him. A6qwDenver 03-14-2003, 02:01 PM VAP 03-14-2003, 03:32 PM All testing done on bored/sleeved throttle body with butterfly screws ground flush with shafts. 3 stage hone@CFM=to 200HP/ net +2.94HP Fully polished@CFM=to 200HP/net 0.00HP 3 stage hone@CFM=to 328HP net +11.18HP Fully polished@CFM= 328HP +.92HP 3 stage hone@CFM=to 400HP/net + 18.07HP Fully polished@CFM=to 400HP/net +1.37HP There's over 1.5x the net gain available from grinding the butterfly screws flush with the shaft than found in polishing the internals alone. Also my testing was done on my velocity stack series throttle bodies and not the large bore straight-sleeved version found in the polished one in the picture so it's an apples/oranges comparison. I gave up on straight sleeved TB's back in early December as a dead-end street and only minimally better than stock. There's no way the results would be as dramatic on a straight-sleeved TB as they simply cannot flow air anywhere near as fast, cool/dense, smoothly or efficiently on the primary side. And there is a definate and real symbiotic relationship between the primary/secondary venturi's. At mid-to-high RPM's restricting the primary bore velocity (not volume) reduces the amount of air coming thru the secondary bore much the same way that blowing air across the surface of water will pull the water up and into the airstream. If the air is sped up in one venturi it will assist in pulling/evacuating air from it's neighboring venturi in much the same way an airfoil (aircraft wing) works. A6qwDenver 03-18-2003, 10:37 AM |
