I love Ross-tech and it's product and will undoubtly purchase a bim-com when it comes out but I have a little gripe about the "orriginal purchaser" rule. It's like audi denying a warranty claim because a vehicle was purchased 2nd hand even tho it still had time remaining on the warranty. I understand that you want to protect your intellectual property but if someone buys a vag-com and sells their VAG car then they are s/o/l as anyone you sell the cable to will not be able to upgrade or even ask questions regarding issues that you are having with the device. Am I the only one that feels this way? </rant>

Why would you buy something used without first checking to see if the license was transferrable?

On average, a new user requires considerably more support (start-up issues, unfamiliarity with the product and so on) than a seasoned one. Hence it wound increase our costs provide "newbie" support to an endless chain of second, third, and nth-hand users.

Upgrades are not particularly profitable for us, so we offer them only to the original purchaser as a way of saying "Thanks for buying our product".

Lastly, your warranty analogy is not valid. For the better part of 10 years (early 1990's through 2001 models) all VW's came with a 10 year / 100,000 mile powertrain warranty -- to the original purchaser only. Once the car changed hands, it was immediately reduced to 5 years / 50,000 miles.
