The airbag light my 1999 A4 1.8T just came on. I tried to VAG it but was unable to connect to the airbag module. I can connect to all other B5 modules except for the ABS module(which is a previously known problem, ie. dead ABS controller) and now the Airbag module.
Could this Airbag issue be a dead Airbag controller now? Or could it be a loose plug/wire/connection that is causing the airbag light and inability to talk to the module?
Thanks--

As with the ABS, these controllers turn the warning light off when they are happy. An unhappy, or dead, or non-existant controller means the light will be on.

Would you recommend first checking plugs/wiring that connect/power the airbags before assuming that it is a dead Airbag controller? Could this even be caused by a fault (ie. wiring) other than the controller module itself? Or do you feel that no communication with the Airbag controller thru VAG-COM untimately means it is dead?
Thanks for your input.

on the harness connector to the airbag controller that:
* You have +12V on all the pins that are supposed to supply power to it.
* Continutity (resistance) to ground on all the pins that are supposed to be ground.
* Continuity of the K-line back to pin 7 of the DLC.
If any of those things are not OK, the module won't talk.
