I just Vag'ed a 96 A4 12v fwd Audi tonight for a guy who's car is in a tranny shop. I first got some codes for the soliniod valves intermintened grounds, but after cleared they did ot come back. the car basically quit moving, so he had the tranny rebuilt, now it still has the same problem, it's got reverse but thats it. the modules soft codeing is 00000, I can not do basic settings 000 it comes up blank. I can do a component test and seems fine but still no Fw gears. any and ALL suggestions would be great. what procedures can and should I do with Vag for him. we do not have the bently so I need steps and procedures. email jschick646@aol.ocm if needed

Thanks again Jon, this is Brian..refresh my memory, did the software let us in to the trans section or not? I still think this is the key to resetting to plain mode ...we still need the code for input if anyone knows it. Also I wanted to give you Daniel's ph# from Bosch-tech 800-521-5462 ref #1923273

yes we can get into the trans section, pull and clear coded, read measuring blocks etc. but it will not reset to basic settings funct 000

If the range switch was bad would the gear indicator light up in a unique way ? If the car is in limp mode would the indicator light up in a different way?

could be the computer, or the vavle body, but i think they would have replaced that with a tranny rebuild. I read somewhere, if you pull the trans computer, you should be able to get 1st and 3rd gear manually, and reverse, by putting the gear selector in that gear. But that was for a diff. year and model, so i don't know.

Also, the basic setting function will not show anything on the screen, you put in 000 press go, then depress the gas pedal to the floor, hold for 5 seconds then release, this resets the trans comp. Also, this is for older year and model, but might work for you.

i have the exact same problem except i can't even
do the output test.
