View Full Version : Can I swap the steering wheel radio only controls for radio/phone controls? absolutcq20v 11-12-2004, 04:35 PM This is in a '00 A6, BTW. TIA! absolutcq20v 11-13-2004, 07:04 AM ...there is a controller in positions 7 & 8 under the dash. These controllers have suffixes which govern which setup is installed (including w/ w/out TIP). Below is a list of those modules and thier intended purposes. Mine, I'm assuming, is an "E" controller (Radio controls only, no telephone image or R/T on the wheel buttons). Control module/equipment versions through m.y. 2001: Suffix "D": Radio/Telephone without Tiptronic Suffix "E": Radio without Tiptronic Suffix "L": Radio/Telephone with Tiptronic Control module/equipment versions from m.y. 2002: Suffix "C": Radio/Telephone without Tiptronic Suffix "J": Radio/Telephone with Tiptronic Suffix "F" and "H": Radio/Telephone (Tiptronic function to be coded) Also, the coding for the E and D units is as follows: ??xxx - always '00" xx?xx - language, '1' for english xxx?x - Tiptronic [always 0 = Tiptronic deactivated (hard coded)] xxxx? - '1' for Radio/Telephone controls '2' for Radio controls So I guess mine would be '00102', but I'll try coding it with the radio/telephone switches installed and post back. Again, this is on a '00 A6 2.7t 6mt. HTH anyone else who was curious...someday...somewhere. :) mustbeaudi 11-13-2004, 11:41 PM If I understand, this will activate the steering wheel phone icon button where it was not active before. I want to do this on our '01 allroad with tip to permit muting of the radio. Will the phone icon control mute the radio in this way once activated? absolutcq20v 11-15-2004, 11:09 AM Do you have the buttons with R/T and a telephone on the bottom two? I imagine you can change the coding to activate the R/T and/or phone button to mute the radio..thinking it has a telephone connected to the system. I'll look into it in the manual this evening if I get a few spare minutes. mustbeaudi 11-15-2004, 05:16 PM absolutcq20v 11-15-2004, 08:29 PM OK, for the 01 Allroad...I'm guessing your multi function steering wheel (MFSW) has a 'J' controller and is currently coded as 0x10y: the variables for x being 0=radio on/CAM remote activated or 1=radio on CAN/remote deactivated. The cariables for y are 1=radio and telephone operation, 2=radio operation, and 3=radio/telephone and voicerecognition/operation. If you get a hold of a VAG-COM, check your current coding and write it down before experimenting. Also, as a check, see if the part number for the controller your have in fact has a 'J' suffix. HTH. mustbeaudi 11-17-2004, 07:12 PM dgburke 01-04-2005, 05:32 PM I have the R/T-Phone buttons on my 2001 A6 4.2 and desparately would like to convert them to the left/right stereo buttons (seeing that the phone buttons are useless anyway). Sounds like you made good progress on this topic, but how do I proceed from here? Do I need a VAG tool? If so, is there a means for renting/borrowing one? Would the dealer have one? Any help will be appreciated. |
