I got codes from it once before, now I can't seem to find it. As well now I get "Unknown Protocol" "keyword 0808" from Module 33, and "Excesive comm errors" Module 17. Anyone know which module is the cruise control? How about these other error codes? Vag seems to communicate with everything else fine.

If the component version of your 97 A6 is with the 'G', like belows, then the cruise control is controlled by the ECU.

Address 33 is "generic OBD-II". Not currently supported by VAG-COM (except to test compatibility).

As far as flaky comms with 17-Instruments: What kind of interface? What version of VAG-COM?

and the ignition switch was bad. Replaced the ign switch, replaced the brake switch, but no codes and no cruise now.

on the steering column switch, when the ignition switch was replaced.
