I jsut got my laptop and VAG the other day. When I test the port, my computer just gives me the busy signal (the hourglass), and yes it is plugged into the port correctly.. Anyone know what could be causing this? TIA!!

I expect it will do this whether the interface is plugged into the PC or not. It's a PITA to find. Gotta go though everything in Device Manager and figure out what's got the same IRQ as your port. Then re-assign one of the devices to another IRQ. This is why "Plug & Play" is sometimes called "Plug & Pray". Windows thinks it can share IRQ's between some devices when it really can't..

get into control panel
system
device settings(search through the tabs)
and then click the '+' next to "ports com..."
and then select the appropriate comport
select properties
go to the resources tab, and check if there are any conflicts
if there are...
uncheck automatic
and change the settings until there are no more conflicts...bingo bango done!

Because Windows doesn't necessarily consider an IRQ shared by two devices as a conflict.

As I said above, Windows sometimes thinks it's OK to share an IRQ between two devices when it really isn't, and that makes it somewhat tedious to find the source of this problem. You have to identify the IRQ your COM port is using, then figure out what other device is also sharing that IRQ and re-assign one of them to a different IRQ.
