In a 2003 A4 (and probably 2002s, and maybe earlier), one of the features of the turn signal stalk is that you can flick it for a lane change, and the turn signals are activated automatically for three blinks.

Is the number of blinks customizable with VAG-COM?

Go look for an adaptation channel with "3" in it! :-)

Seriously, I don't know if that can be tweaked or not.
