View Full Version : So has anyone got the skinny on getting the Bently cd to run without the cd? Basically you need to copy the entire data directory (whatever it's called) from the CD to the root of your hard drive, keeping the same files structure. By the way, if you haven't already installed the program on the computer do so from the disc, like normal. Next you need to modify the file called: cd.txt It is located in the Bentley Publishers\b5\jars directory from where ever you installed the program. Modify the file with a text editor so it has the new drive letter from where you copied the data information to from the CD. For instance: I put the CD data on my C:\ drive. Thus in the CD.txt file I had the drive "E:" by default from my installation. I changed it to read "C:". Now just save the text file and run the program as you would normally and it should work from the hard drive data instead of the CD. This is for the older Bentley CD's (pre-2001). I don't know if it is the same for the newer ones. needforsleep 03-13-2003, 01:16 PM Andy@Ross-Tech 03-13-2003, 02:35 PM Jeff Vader - boscoj 03-13-2003, 03:54 PM Jeff Vader - boscoj 03-13-2003, 04:00 PM Haystack 03-13-2003, 04:39 PM And the rest is pretty automatic! Like Andy said, there is even a menu choice to transfer data. I found that there were a few files missing after upgrading to 2.5 (like the picture on the main page), but Bentley was able to straighten me out quickly by emailing me the files. I imagine they have the updater fixed by now. needforsleep 03-13-2003, 08:37 PM Haystack 03-13-2003, 08:51 PM I have no experience with this type of installation. Sorry. AJG 03-13-2003, 09:48 PM I'm putting new rear brake pads in this weekend that match the new front pads. Thanks, Andrew Xel 03-13-2003, 10:44 PM Jeff Vader - boscoj 03-14-2003, 08:15 AM and apparently the small ones are single use . . . needforsleep 03-14-2003, 09:00 AM AJG 03-14-2003, 11:02 AM Unless I can see something visibly wrong with the single use bolt (or I can find another one at the hardware store), it will be reused.
