I know this has been discussed before, but I would like your recommendations on what custom exhaust to get.
My car is currently stock, with an air filter. I have heard some people think 2.5 inch is too small and 3 inch is too big. So I was thinking about getting a 2.75 inch mild steel exhaust from the turbo back. I have an over the phone 'quote' of about $700.
I want to be about to mod the car further without having to upgrade the exhaust again. My target is in the region of 180kw at the fly. This sound reasonable?
How much flow would a 2.75 inch exhaust be good for? 200+ kw?
Youre going to get many different opinions on this. I had a 3" exhaust on my car .. it was quite loud, but I liked it.
Most aftermarket exhaust for A4's are 2.5-2.75". I think 2.5" is enough to flow the amount of power you want.
You should get a ride in Stasik's car .. it's a milltek with a 2.5" downpipe and 2.75" the rest of the way. It's pretty quiet down low, but has a nice tone when you step on it.
I'm sure NJ018 will be happy to give u a ride in his car at the next club meet. He's got a 3" turbo back exhaust which sounds similar to mine.
Have a listen to a few setup's to get an idea of what it will sound like and if its too loud for you etc.
$700 seems cheap .. is that for stainless or mild steel, mandrel bent? cat back?
I definately think it's worth getting a larger downpipe and a high flow cat. It definately made my K03 spool up alot quicker.
Hope this helps.

Thats for a turbo back exhaust, but as I said it was over the phone, so its a pretty rough quote from daalder exhausts in box hill. He suggested I take my car in, for him to have a look at it and to give a more accurate quote.
It was for mild steel, I dont see the point of stainless. Not sure about the bends. The price will be influenced by the type of muffler I want, and if I want the cat upgraded.

The point of stainless is that it doesn't drone like mild steel. Just ask AXE about drone :)
I'd get the Remus muffler, a little more expensive but they are the best tips in the business.
But seriously .. I think the drone had more todo with the pipe diameter and the fact that I only had one muffler.
It droned from 2.5-3K. I noticed stasik's milltek drones around 3.5-4K .. but it's nowhere near as loud as mine was.
I dont see the point of stainless either unless u want some extra bling. They both will perform the same in the end.
You could get two full turbo back systems for the amount you paid for that Remus muffler ;D
I can't see much value in that. Magnaflow makes some nice stainless mufflers which sound good and have a range of tips available. Just pick something you like. It's the only part of the exhaust you will look at 90% of the time .. so you want it to look good. Save your cash (for your chip/turbo upgrade) and get the rest of the piping done in mild, unless you have money to burn.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
I think I've read somewhere that the reason the use stainless steel is beause it's a bit lighter and also it let's hot air travel a bit better as well. Also I think I've also read somewhere that it keeps the heat in stainless steel better too. By how much or whether the benefit justifies the cost I really don't know though. Hope that somehow helps.....

the reason why there are drones is that my exhaust place told me that its got to do with the diameter of the tips on the muffler
- the bigger the tips the more drone u get
my tips are 2.5" big and the rest of my system is 3" sounds really good
hope this helps - get 3" with no drones and more power than 2.5"

I may be able to get a 2nd hand remus muffler from a Nissan 200sx. Would this fit to an A4?
I looked on the website, there is a car model chooser to get the exhaust you want. The 200sx exhuast looks very similar to the A4 exhaust.
Does anyone know for sure?

There's even a big difference between the quattro and fwd models.

Did you ever find out information about this? I was thinking of getting one myself. I found one for a nissan and I think with some custom work it would fit. Does anyone know where you could find the dimensons for a remus? Thanks
