This happened on the way back from a customer site last Friday.

Hit by a feral taxi driver, who had the stupidity to drive off with fluid pouring out of his radiator!

The central locking still locks, and both windows still operate fine. Damn good testament to the way these puppies are built.

It's in at the repairer now and is expected to take 3 weeks because of the complexity (chassis needs straightening, and they need to replace the B-pillar, sill and both doors).

Australian Crash Repairs, Port Road (in Adelaide).

I've used them before to get my lowers painted and they did a darn good job. They are BMW accredited crash, do all the work for the only BMW dealer in Adelaide, and the workshop was full of BMWs.

Previous experience with the Audi-recommended repairer (basically the panel shop of the Holden dealer across the road from my Audi dealer) has put me off them for good. They couldn't even do a decent job on an Astra.

It pays to have a good panel beater lined up for unforunate incidents like this.

...because his car will be off the road for "weeks". I've referred him to my insurance company (thank god for comprehensive insurance) and if that fails, I'll be referring him to my employer's solicitors (I was on work business at the time).

BTW the taxi owner doesn't even have comprehensive insurance - just 3rd party property. Surely a taxi would have comprehensive cover...I hate to think how many taxis, couriers and other professional drivers are doing this.

The numnut driver had the stupidity to drive off from the scene with his radiator leaking fluid. I'm going to let my insurance company know that the car wasn't in a drivable state, so if the owner claims for engine damage, it's his driver's fault.

I won't discuss specific details here but delaing with an insurance co. when you are 100% NOT at fault is an interesting experience.
