10 January 2003 - VEHICLE JACK SAFETY RECALL NOTICE

Following a product safety survey by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Audi Australia Pty Ltd (`Audi Australia') has commenced a voluntary recall of vehicle jacks provided with new Audi passenger vehicles supplied in Australia from 1993 to August 2002.

LABELLING DEFECTS - Audi A4(B6), A8 (D2), A3, 80/90(B4) and A4(B5 - chassis numbers WAU ZZZ 8DZ YA 118855 and above)

Vehicle Jacks provided with the above models sold since 1993, do not meet some of the compulsory labelling and safe usage instruction requirements of the Australian Safety Standard AS/NZS2693:1993 (`Australian Vehicle Jack Standard'). Owners of these Audi vehicles will shortly be provided with replacement jack labels by mail for affixing to their Audi jacks. For the safety of any person using the vehicle jack it is important that the labelling be affixed as soon as possible.

PERFORMANCE AND LABELLING DEFECTS - Audi TT, A6(C5), Allroad(C5), 100(C4) and A4(B5 - chassis range WAU ZZZ 8DZ SA 081564 to WAU ZZZ 8DZ YA 118854)

In addition to having labelling defects, Audi Australia has discovered from its own investigations that vehicle jacks provided with the above models sold since 1993, do not meet some of the compulsory design, construction and performance requirements of the Australian Vehicle Jack Standard. As a result, there is a risk that the Audi vehicle may fall off its jack.

To avoid a potential safety hazard and/or injury, if you have an Audi TT, A6(C5), Allroad(C5), 100(C4) or A4(B5 - chassis range WAU ZZZ 8DZ SA 081 564 to WAU ZZZ 8DZ YA 118854) vehicle, please do not use your Audi vehicle jack.

Audi Australia will shortly write to vehicle owners provided with these affected vehicle jacks about the best available solution to the performance defects and labelling defects. In the meantime, if you need to change a wheel on your Audi vehicle, please dial the free call number 1800 818 833. An accredited service provider will be sent to your vehicle to change your wheel. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and the average attendance time is 45 minutes.
