Hmm well been doing some research into doing some chip tuning at home.. This is what I've found..
1) Dump the ROM
2) Identify what type of CPU that you are dealing
with.
3) Find a dissasembler for the CPU
4) You can't just find the tables and tweek them
to do it right you must understand the code.
(reverse engineer the ECU logic) I am not sure
of what the side effects are of just tweeking
the tables..
5) Monotronic has more than one checksum inside to
find out if you are tweeking with it.
6) From the source I found alot of chip tuners
don't do it right.. (THIS IS REPEAT OF WHAT
I READ I DON'T KNOW IF A4 CHIP PEOPLE KNOW
OR NOT!!)
The GM ECU's have tons of support.. alot of people tweaking their Z28's / Grand Nationals / etc etc..
ahh well anyone else try to do this..
