Six weeks ago and again last week my dealer assured me my 99 1.8T would be here this week... Well, it's not. (I suspected a problem when I checked my VIN status on the PORT website mentioned a couple days ago...)
Apparently *all* 1.8Ts not yet in transit from port are being delayed due to a 'technical hold'. It was explained to me that there's some sort of brake problem with these cars and corrections are being made (at the port??? i ask!). No further details. The dealer estimated the hold to last 1 week, but he doesn't really know.
So now my dealer's 'assured' ETA is Dec 1.
Can anyone try to dig up more on this 'hold' from their dealers?
thanks. Jay

it was in production early Oct. and put on a ship mid Oct.
Supposedly, it arrived at port of houston nov 3, and has been stuck there since. something doesn't add up though. i am pissed.
seems like it takes about 4-6 weeks once it completed production. your dealer can tell you the current status of your car (but take his time estimates with a grain of salt)
Jay,
I ordered way back in July and the car should have been here in October. Well, as of lat week it was still loaded on a ship in Germany, waiting for God knows what. I bit the bullet and got a 98.5 off the lot, I needed a car desperately. No great loss - got a better deal, Quattro and butt-warmers in the process.
So make of this what you want - there's definitely a delay in the ports (either in Europe or in the US or both), and not just with the Quattro cars.
Best of luck,
Andrei.

And according to www.porthouston.com, the boats are only about 8 days apart, I would say something is up!

The cars are having a hose replaced, mine has been delayed in port since November 4. However, after really pushing my dealer, I sat in the showroom for 2 1/2 hours the other day while they called the port for a firm answer...they picked it up today and I take delivery Thursday. I'll inquire about what exactly the hose is for when I pick mine up. At this stage it's really in the hands of the guys at the port so if you need it fast you'll have to really push your dealer and hope they've got a good relationship with the port. My dealer sold the port's chief his car so I suspect that helped expedite things. Good luck.
Regards,
Rodney
Mine was ordered back in July and I finally picked it up two weeks ago...Nov. 4th! Please let me know what you find out re:why it was supposedly "hung up" at the port(s). Thanks!
JT 99' 1.8Tqms
PS You'll love it once you get it!

I've been put into the Nov. production month........expecting this car to show around Dec. 14th....hopefully....I call my dealer and there is no VIN # available yet...is he telling the truth??? i would like to think that i'll get this car for the Christmas holiday..any supporters?
My car was supposed to arrive this week. The dealer ran a status report last week and found out the car was sitting in port last Monday (November 9th). They said I could expect 7-10 days for delivery once it is in port. I figured that the car could have already been sitting in port for a few days so it would be 10 days from November 9th at the most!
I drove through their lot yesterday afternoon and saw two new cars (plastic on the seats) that were not there the day before. I expected that my car came with them and they had probably moved it inside to clean it up and I would get a call today. I have not heard anything yet.
I think I will call to ensure it is here.
TGB 1999 1.8T qMS (somewhere between Halifax and me)
