Hi, I'm new to this board and would like some feedback, both positive and negative regarding the possible purchase of a new Audi A4 1.8t. Does it require a lot of attention to maintenace and care?? I would also like to boost the hp to about 200+ and would like any suggestion anyone has regarding this topic. I've read about a chip that increases the hp by about 50hp and that a new exhaust system will bring it to about 215. Is this true and how much of a hassle will this be?? Any comments or suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Thansk again.

Not trying to be rude and/or abrupt. However, your questions have already been addressed to the point of exhaustion. All you have to do is search in the forum archives. There you will find more detailed responses.
In short, the A4 is awesome -- from a performance and reliability standpoint. Yes, upgrading the chip will add approximately 40-50hp. The exhaust will add a little more hp. The upgrades that are available can increase the hp of the A4 to 350hp and beyond.
Good luck.
P.S. Make sure you get the Quattro, otherwise you'll be limited to the hp you can add. Plus, it is really not that much more for what you get.
I don't think a new 1.8T should be a maintenance hog for quite a while, and than only if you neglect the car. I think all those chips do is crank up the boost and maybe run a little more advance in the timing. But ya, it is possible to get 200 or so horsepower with just a chip. If you do get a chip, get a $100 turbo timer and run a good synthetic oil. If you're going to do the exhaust go with a 3" system from the downpipe back. I can't say how much an exhaust will give you but 15hp on a turbocharged car is not out of the question.
