I just spoke to the dealer today and they said there are 2 ways to figure out if the car is chipped (besides seeing it)
1. checking the boost with a gauge (already mentioned on the forum)
2. checking the computer to see if you have gone abouve 6.5K RPM
Now if you go above red line then it stores it in memory and can not be erased by unplugging the ECU. The only way is with the dealers tool. My quesiton: Is there a way to reset it at home or not. Also does carcomp work or the VWtools to reset.
Thanks
mike
How does #2 tell them you have a chip?
In my pre-chip days, I have taken the car above 6,500 rpm and hit the rev limiter at a bit over 7000.
Sharon
'97 A4 1.8T etc. etc. etc.

Both CarComp and VWTool allow you to reset any DTCs that have been stored.
Also, the ECU doesn't store an 'over-revved engine' just because you have gone over 6500 rpm. You have to hit the 'hard rev limiter.' My neuspeed chip moved my hard rev limiter to 7000 rpm, so an 'over rev' DTC is only stored when I hit 7000 AND the hard limiter is hit. By the hard limiter I mean the fuel shut off. You can feel and hear when that kicks in.
JohnS

I agree with Sharon and I'll take it a step further. Redline has nothing to do with chips, you can redline without an aftermarket chip. And, why would you do such a thing anyways????? Look at the torque curves (plateau?), there is NO performance advantage and you are increasing wear!
There are several other chip "indications" in VAG, so what?
