MM why do you always bring up stuff to piss us off? i dont totally understand why ur even in the B6 forum when you have a B5 (anyone is welcome regardless of if they even have an audi, but why do you bash the B6?? sig picture?) audi has always made very reliable if somewhat "detuned" engines, notice how with an M3 or a S2000 you cant do much to improve the performance, the manufacturer already pulled all the power out of those engines, thats why with your 2.7T engine, all you have to do is throw a chip on and you get 70 hp!!! (other engines are running MUCH higher psi stock, cant go much past the evo's 19 psi without modifying the internals) The reason audi has such "bad" numbers (its quite comparative) is because they make torquey flexible engines, your 2.7T gets its full torque at only 1900rpm!!!!! if you chip it it doesnt have full power till a bit later, (2000-3000 if i remember correctly) but its still far lower than the stratmospheric rpms you have to go to to get power out of lots of those other engines. as Motor trend once said "The S2000 is fast, if you drive it like you hate it"

He is high sarcastic and doesnt mean everything thing he says that way people take it. Also he is not the kind of person who mods his car (at least his B5). So numbers like that are important to him if he is trying to get the best bang for the buck or an already highly tuned engine out of the box. Bashing audi? I dunno I think he would just like audi to do a better job in tuning the cars, I cant say I disagree. I wish the S4 put out the 400HP its easily capable of or lost about 300-400 pounds. Sure maybe you add a little cost to R&D carbon parts but overall most of the work is R&D and not really production costs. $0.02

yea, i agree with you, except that some people are not "enthusiasts" like you and i are, i would love to have the 4.2 biturbo engine in the B6 S4 with the 6-speed, (can we have a moment of silence for that thought to sink in?...........ahhhh.........) or not have that annoying little exhaust valve that it has now, etc. but there are some people who buy these cars to be fun, but more importantly, to be drivable every day, and comfortable. Some people dont want a car that has THAT much power, it scares them and may cause Audi to lose some customers. (Audi is chosen over BMW by many because its more refined and mellow) I think about it this way, Audi could have given the new S4 a modified version of the new 3.2 liter 6 (in the TT) that was pimped to within an inch of its life and rated at three hundred something h.p., it would be light weight and great in "h.p./L", but it would also be "peaky" (all the magazines that tested m3 and s2000 said they needed to be kept at higher rpms for power, whereas the S4 was "flexible"). And those of us who decide to modify the engine would have been left with little room to work. So instead they gave us a great torquey V8. Some will leave it alone, and others will extract more power from the well built "empty canvas" we have been given. This way we choose exactly what we want, and dont pay for what we dont want. And people who dont want more power dont pay the extra money for it. Lastly, you save the money that you would have had to pay for more performance (say for instance that it had the Rs6 engine, it would base around at least 60 to stay competitive with RS6 sales) Im sure that some of the upcoming performance products from Stratmosphere and APR will make it all worth it.

As for the rest, as Bergx7, you need to drive 'em like you hate 'em to get the most of 'em! PS: I just got rid of my Saab 9-5 Aero and wouldn't even think of comparing the two engines!

Notice that there are few non turbocharged V8s above the S4 other than the S8. With a V8 there is not the need to get as much HP as possible out of the engine, The bigger the motor the less you need to wring out of every cc. However, that doesn't mean you cannot get more out of your S4. Remember, automakers are generally building street cars. The demand for these high performance motors is not as great as the demand for reliablity. Also, the more high performance and exotic parts you put in an engine, the greater the cost. Automakers want to sell cars, period. Do you think the new S4 would have 340hp if the M3 didn't have 333hp? It could have 400hp, but it doesn't need it to compete with BMW in the market place at this moment. When M3 goes to 400 hp, Audi will likely counter. What do you think?

speced versions worked with Porsche on it. I believe they used a bigger block engine , drop the sequential turbos did a lot of mods like you said and they crancked out 600 hp. They actually claim Porsche help them out a lot on the project and that Porsche told them the chassis was good for the 600 hp. Also intersting in the article I read was the fact that Porsche nuts like Ralph Lauren and Bill Gates (not sure) and others tried to bring in a 959 back when they were being built to sacrefice it for crash testing and share the cost! Interesting reading, I wish I could be in their shoes to afford these nice cars. Well now there is the Carrera GT and it will be available for the few lucky ones on this side of the ocean. BTW, Jerry Seinfeld wrote an article for a car magazine on the car. He actually went to the former East Germany airfield at the press release of the car and test drove it as a regular "press guy", the article is very funny. I'm sure he will be one of the lucky persons to own one, knowing how much of a Porsche nut he is.
