View Full Version : Is it just me, or is the B6 a lot closer in weight to the M3 than everybody lets on?

Think about it. The B6 Sedan weighs in a 3645 lbs. Take away the 60lb spare tire (which the M3 DOESN'T have - rather just an air pump) and we're talking 3585lbs. The M3 weighs about 3420 lbs. Thats only a difference of 160 lbs. And we all know how fat those bimmer guys are, so by the time we get actual drivers in the cars I'm sure we'll be lighter than them if tested on a scale. =P

Ok, but seriously. 160lbs is hardly anything to cry about. I doubt the average driver would even notice the difference if 160lbs was added/removed from their car.

It's a damn luxury sports sedan, not a viper, not 911tt, not NSX, if you want a sheet of paper with an engine attached perhaps they should look elsewhere. Plenty of cars will afford you this opportunity, WRX?

The luxury in luxury sports sedan cost weight, using quality parts cost weight, ... I say if the weight is killing you that much, choose something else, get the M3, it's light, it's fast, and feels like as one person put it, a Civic with a 333HP engine?

Who wants to look and feel good in his car, and when he hits the gas can blow by some other cars with ease.

I generally think it's not the type of driver that will abuse his car to have fun with it (as I have done.. :\ hehe), who pulls handbrakes, as a habit turns off traction control when he starts the car, accellerates down and up the twisties.. Audi never gave me the image of that type of a car.

Quattro is there as a safety feature.. Audi has built a great reputation on that wonderful piece of technology. RWD cars require more time to learn and master, whereas AWD make as was said on the C&D forums.. a bad driver look good.

I think Audi has a great car in the S4 but to compare it to a GT like the M3 which is purely for fun and not really for the luxury... is a bad arguement to begin with.

Just my $.02 though.

...if you look at C&D's test of the B6 A4 3.0, it was well over 3700 lbs., and the S4's engine weighs 44 lbs. more than the 3.0. The spare is 50 lbs.

...that meets that category.

I am sure the S4 is will be heavier. Throw on the 50 pound 18" Ronal rims and there you go. No talk of weight savings in the article besides the V8 being light.

Perhaps they are measuring a 3.0 with driver and passenger and full tank of gas?
