OK I'm having an argument with Audi

My Cabs instruments would light up during the day without the side lights or headlights being on (this is in the UK guys)
but after 5000 miles, the instrument light is flickering and has now gone off completely. only comes on with heradlights now.

Audi claim the light should only work with headlights and they are not on as standard

Anyone here know if they should be on permanently ?

thanks

This is the singapore version, but should be the same as your euro spec.
But the red needles illuminates at all times once the engine starts.

display adjusts to the lighting ( i.e. sun )

As standard...

The needles are permanantly lit.

The instrument back lighting is permanantly lit when your sidelights or full lights are on.

However:

The instrument backlighting is lit during the day when your lights are off to enhance the clarity of the numerals, but they are not lit at night (only the needles are) so that you don't think your lightrs are on when they are not.

There is a pinhead sized light sensor to the right of the main dash instruments which measures the ambient light and decides "enough light - dash lights on" or "not enough light - dash lights off so as not to confuse the driver into thinking his exterior lights are on".

As I say, the whole point of this is to provide illumination of the numerals to aid clarity during the day when you lights are off but not to fool you into thinking your lights are on at night when they are not.
