View Full Version : Silicone for window rattles?

From what I understand, the Audi dealers add some kind of silicone spray to the window seams to eliminate rattles.

They do this to my cab every time I take it in complaining of window rattles. After a couple of weeks of squeek-free riding, the rattles return.

Audi doesn't seem to not have a permanent solution, and I'm sick of taking it in (it's been a dozen times already).

So, does anyone know what this silicone stuff is, and if I can buy it myself? Right now I'm using WD-40, but that only lasts a few days.

Thanks in advance.

BTW, my roof has been a nightmare since I got the car two years ago; It broke down twice, has been emitting clanging sounds from all parts of the top, and most recently the inner roof liner has been getting caught in the mechanism. I've grown really tired of this shoddy piece of roof technology. $47K for this?

turn the music up. I have some window rattle but they dont bother me that much as i still feel the car is solid with the top up.

I went to fix the squeaks in the top at the dealership. they used a little gel from a tube of silicone. you should be able to buy direct from audi. they said the spray dosne't last that long (evaporates) and I wouldn't use wd-40. No squeaks w/ gel in 5 weeks from the top, not even over speed bumps. very happy.

good luck.

I take a regular white household candle and rub it around the top of each window. It provides the same level of lube as WD40 etc but lasts for months, not weeks.

I give the windows a quick rub with a candle each time I wash (not often) and it doesn't squeak a bit !
