She is already wanting to drop it a bit and get new rims, and we have not even picked it up yet. What suspension set up would not give such a harsh ride but lower it slightly to fill the gap.

you might want to search the regular b6 forum. there is a lot of physics behind c/o's. they have to be properly done so that each wheel has the same weight or you'll have one off balanced car!
