New Club Vice President:

Join me in congratulating Jonathan Rudich as our new Audi Club of South Florida Vice President. Jonathan brings over 14 years of car club experience to the Board of Directors and has been a driving force in generating momentum and awareness for the club. Representing the "old school" of Audi owners, Jonathan knows an impressive amount of Audi history and has a working knowledge of almost every Audi model since the early 70's. Jonathan previously served as the club Events Coordinator.

I would like to thank our outgoing VP, Liam Kimbrell, for all his help in getting the club up and running. Liam has decided to step down so he could focus on his college studies and work. As a founding member and director, he will continue to participate and be a trusted advisor to me and the directors.

Scouting for third meeting location in Miami

We are actively looking for a third meeting location in the Miami area. This year we plan to rotate the meetings between Palm Beach, Broward and Dade counties. If you have any ideas or suggestions for the Miami location please send me or any of the club directors an email with you idea.

The basic criteria for a great meeting location is:
1. Large empty parking lot on Saturday afternoons.
2. Close to a major freeway (95 or Turnpike) and easy to get to.
3. Restaurant must have fairly good food.
4. Can handle a crowd of 20-40 people.
5. A bar would be nice too.

Audi Club Corral @ 2003 12 Hours of Sebring

Mark your calendars: 51st 12 Hours of Sebring, March 12-15, 2003 . Audi Club of South Florida along with the Audi Club of Central Florida will once again be hosting a Audi Club Corral (See pictures from last year <a href="http://watkinsglen.bverticals.com/pictures/020316%20Sebring/Sebring_20022.htm">here</a>). We have secured the famed location on turn 17 across from the entrance to the pits. We will have the hospitably tent along with a plethora of "Beverage" coolers and live SPEED channel coverage. We will also have parking for about 60 cars within feet of the track. We are finalizing the arrangements and should have the details and registrations ready to go by the end of January. If you or your company are interested in sponsoring this event please email me (john@audiclubsfl.com).

Winterfest 2003 - Driver Education and Track Days

PBOC and NASA-FL are hosting Winterfest @ Sebring on January 23, 24 25 &amp; 26, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This is a four day high performance driving school and NASA race weekend. If you have ever considered taking a driver education course (i.e. driving on the track at speed) this is the one to do.

Winterfest is hosted by PBOC (Porsche, BMW Owners Club) and is a NASA (See below) sanctioned event. The cost is $275 plus a $50 non-member fee. That includes 2 days with an instructor. You can also elect to just do one day for $150 plus the $50 non-member fee. You will get 4, 30 minute sessions on the track each day for a total of about 4 hours over the weekend. They rotate between the Novice, Intermediate/Advanced, Solo, and Racer Groups throughout the day. As a novice you will have about a 1 hour classroom session on Saturday morning before your first track session. You can read more on "What to Expect" <a href="http://www.sunshinebeemer.com/what_to_expect.htm">here</a>

NASA Info:
National Auto Sport Association (NASA) is similar to the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and hosts a series of Driver Education and Racing Events. The Driver education events are essential track time with an instructor in your car. It can be in your street car or a "purpose built" track car. The primary difference between NASA and SCCA is in the racing, SCCA allows bumping and trading paint, NASA doesn't. NASA is a more attractive club racing series for people with limited budgets or that race as a hobby.

National Auto Sport Association (Florida) Website: <a href="http://www.nasafl.org">http://www.nasafl.org</a>

If you want to driver your car for the weekend:
1. Register on the NASA-FL website. (<a href="http://www.nasafl.org/winterfest_2003.htm">http://www.nasafl.org/winterfest_2003.htm</a>)
2. Put in racing brake fluid, your stock fluid will boil in the brake lines and your will get bad fade or even lose your brakes.
3. Put in 15W-50 Mobil1 Synthetic oil because your car will be running extreme engine temps and regular oil will break down. It is recommended to get the oil changed before and after the event.
4. Get a local race shop to give you a tech inspection and signoff.
5. Buy or Rent a Snell 2000 Rated Helmet.

If you wreck your car, your insurance will cover you once (then they will probably drop you). This is a "Driver Education" event so it is covered by most insurance companies. There are specialty insurance companies that will write you a policy for the weekend at a significant cost. The general idea is to just take it easy and drive safely and you should be fine. No one else wants to wreck their car either. There are guys out there with $200K+ cars.

If want to "Arrive and Drive" a track prepared car:
Call my buddies Jay and Don at RTR Motorsportz and they will setup you up in one of their 4 cars from a track prepared BMW M3 up to a factory built PTG M3 Race Car. They offer a complete "Arrive and Drive" package. Prices and details can be found on their website @ <a href="http://www.rtrmotorsportz.com/rental%20page/Rentals.htm">http://www.rtrmotorsportz.com/rental%20page/Rentals.htm.</a>

If you have questions please email me (john@audiclubsfl.com) or Oliver Licul (oliver@audiclubsfl.com) our Track Events Coordinator.
