I have a '99 A4 1.8t qms. It's been an ok car. After 85,000 miles, it drives almost as well today as the day we bought it. On the other hand, reliability is not one of its strong suits.

Since we live in an area where we get a lot of snow, and on top of a steep hill no less, my wife insists on AWD. We're not interested in getting an SUV. Or an AWD BMW or a Subaru. So we're probably going to go with Audi again.

One of the things we especially like about the A4 is that it feels so tight... in the city at 25 mph, in the mountains at 45 mph, or at 85 mph on the highway. Question for those of you who have driven both vehicles is this: Does the A4 Cab have that same taut feeling, or is it really "floaty", as one Audiworld poster recently suggested?

Floaty feel has to do with little soft suspension

but when I drove it, the chassis was rock solid.

My suspension is floaty because I couldn't wait for a sport package version to ship in a few months (I'm installing aftermarket suspension soon). I also prefered the look of the all-season wheels. I don't know if it's any softer than a non-sport A4 sedan/Avant. Nevertheless, the A4 Cab ride should feel allot tighter with the sport option.

Intrestingly, once I overcame the fear of losing control due to the soft ride, the cab responded beautifully to aggressive driving.

I recommend that you get the sport package if its available.

Have had a '99 A4 1.8 without sport package and a '01 S4. The cab is closer to the S4.
