Hello,

I'm contemplating a route 66 road trip. I'm a Chicago/Boston transplant. I don't want to drive my A4 to Chicago, however - I'd like to drive an Audi from Chicago to Barstow.

Suggestions? Rental? Lease? --

No idea is to remote/impossible... ;)

Fortunately, it's only a 6-8 hour drive for me to get to Chicago. ;-)

If you're going to do it right and take your time to take in the sights along the way, why not try to turn it into a charity trip? Maybe Audi of America could sponsor the car for the trip? You'll need to determine the charity and how you'll raise money for the cause.

Other than that, look around to see if there's any company that allows you to rent an Audi. It might be possible, but the rate might be crazy with penalties on mileage.

On a business/vacation trip to San Francisco, I thought it would be a good idea to rent an Audi (even thought of an S4 which was available) for a trip down the Pacific Coast Highway.

Mind you, I haven't owned or driven a domestic car in more than 10 years. I am a bonafied European Car Junkie (currently have a 2001.5 S4, 2003 Saab 95 Aero and a 2007 RS 4).

The difference in price was ASTRONOMICAL and totally unjustifiable. I so wanted the S4 cabrio for the ride, I just couldn't do it. I can't remember exactly, but I'm thinking that the rental was around $225/day vs. $100 for a domestic premium.

I ended up with a Cadilac CTS (POS) that worked for the time we needed it. If you've got money to burn, then rent it - otherwise, drive your own.
