I have done my best to negotiate a good deal on a new 1999 1.8T. The vehicle I have a firm quote on is a 99 silver, Tiptronic, quattro, Bose, Winter, sunroof, sport wheel for $28,000..how does this compare to what other people have paid???? From what I can gather it's $1300 over invoice...

I think you have left out the best option available on the A4, namely the sport package. For $750, you upgrade from 15" wheels to 16" wheels, get performance tires, 20 mm lower ride height, sport suspension and the sport steering wheel.
Also, do you have to get both quattro and tiptronic? Many people on this forum have commented that the performance of the 1.8T in this configuration is sub-par. I think it is preferable to go with one or the other (FWD/ Tiptronic or Quattro/manual).
My personal preference would be not to load up a 1.8T with all these options. I think it pushes the price to the range where you can get another car for your money. For example, the Acura 3.2TL has an MSRP of $28,400 including destination. You don't have quattro and the sporty feel of an A4, but you are not really going after performance if you are getting a tiptronic/Quattro 1.8T.
Your deal (<$1300 over invoice) sounds good.
for $26,900. The quattro is great and the tiptronic is great. As for performance, it's plenty good enough. There are plenty of reasons to spend that kind of money on an A4, performance aside. It's classy, sporty, and fun as hell to drive. Everyone that gets in my car "ooohs" and "aaahs". I still own the Toyota 4WD 5-speed pickup that I have been driving for ten years. Sometimes it's a real relief to get away from that stick, especially in metro type traffic.

I just picked my 99' 1.8T with manual, sport, quatro, weather, sunroof for 27,000. However I will say that unless you really are not interested in performance that you should avoid the tip. It's nice to not have to shift for yourself and with the tip you can do it yourself. But the tip suffers greatly in the perfomance department, in the ballpark of about 1.5sec 0-60.
But that's just my opinion.
Jake 1.8Tqms 2weeks and still smilin'
