View Full Version : Who is Tom Saltino?! selfproclaimedv8buff 06-07-2004, 10:22 AM I belive Ray and Rob mentioned him to me at the meet but i didnt know who it was. Anybody got any info on him other then that he is the president of the southeast quattro chapter?! thanks. CorrupTT 06-07-2004, 12:25 PM he lives up near Tate, GA. that's all I know. whats up? selfproclaimedv8buff 06-07-2004, 01:13 PM i heard he had a ur-s4 that he had some serious work done to it engine wise. I'm getting a 200q20v w/ a similar 5 cylinder turbo engine and would love to talk shop. RobC 06-07-2004, 01:15 PM petie k 06-07-2004, 04:52 PM A birdie that said you guys were talking about me so I figured that I should at least say hello. I don't hang out on AW much or anywhere else lately, but still very much involved in Audis, Life has kept me out of the goings-on lately. I still have a few things planned for the S-car, but for the most part I'm done with modding it any further. She got a euro S6 6-spd about two months ago. I'm building a 2.2 20vt motor for the typ85 at present, but that's a slow process due to the fact that the later 20vt motor was never put into a typ85. So I've been carefully buying a mix of RS2, UrQ 20v, and Sportquattro parts and putting them together carefully. It's already been two years in the making and I've got a ways to go! If anyone ever needs to reach me you can always get me via www.audiclub.org at the Cherokee Chapter. I'm also currently looking for help with the club as I'm stretched pretty thin these days. I'd love to have a couple more events if I had the man power!! Tom 94 S4 http://quattro.polter.net 95.5 S6 Avant 85 4kq 84 GTI Cup racer Mr.FRU-T-Pants 06-07-2004, 05:34 PM Looks somewhat familiar. LOL Let me know if you run into any snafus w/ the 20v transplant. Perhaps I can direct you in some capacity. petie k 06-08-2004, 08:40 AM I wish you could help! I'm in uncharted waters building a one off motor with a lot one-off parts....for where I am going you cannot follow! Mr.FRU-T-Pants 06-08-2004, 09:05 AM Although my garage is still waiting to be diminished by two. But I will end up with two 95's(sedan and Avant), and a Type 85 as well. The B5 S4 and the Type 44 are still waiting to find new homes. If you fill me in on your one-off, I might be able to help. There's one in the works for me too, and if you're using a jumbled assembly of AudiSport(S1) and SportQ components, as well as some AAN peripherals, I might be able to provide some answers if you get stuck. If that's the case, shoot me an email. What kind of power are you shooting for, and what kind of powerband performance? Are you stroking, or sticking to the 2.2? Cheers, Patrick petie k 06-08-2004, 09:35 AM Well OK here goes.... I've got wheel bearing carriers and uprights from an RS2 and I'm running axles from and 1990 20v sedan and 1993 V6 90q CVs. I also have UrQ offset(24ET) BBS RS 16x8 wheels that I'll be running over 993tt calipers mounted using RS2 caliper brackets. In order for all this to work together correct front track width/proper caliper clearance, etc, I need to find a hub (82mm) that has a similar offset to the UrQ as the front sheet metal from the UrQ will have to be present to facilitate the 8 inch wheels and accompanying rubber. Keep in mind that all early hub cannot be used. Only late model hubs due to the larger innner bearing diameter. Suggestions?? :-) Mr.FRU-T-Pants 06-08-2004, 10:59 AM Mr.FRU-T-Pants 06-08-2004, 03:28 PM petie k 06-09-2004, 04:35 AM I figured.....that was a tough one. I'm playing with ya! :-) About the engine. I really don't want to let the cat out, but I will say that it won't be like most 20vt conversions. I'm not using anything AAN except the block and the head. And by block I don't mean pistons/rods/crank/etc.....I mean just the block. Starting from the block up totally built motor. I have decided to run the RS2 accessories which means I'll be running a serp belt as opposed to a bunch of old school v-belts. Most of this stuff I already have on the motor except for the A/C commpressor which I should be getting from Germany in about a month. The other parts that interface with the cooling system, fuel lines, I've sourced from the 20v UrQ due to it being the only typ85 that ever got a 20vt motor. Although it has a distributor, it's layout in the engine bay is still as close as I need it to be. There are a lot uf unknowns here. Unfortunately miscalculations are pricey ones. Then I'm stuck with something that I can't use or sell because it's some obscure Urq 20v fuel line that nobody needs. I have deduced that rear S2 avant hubs should give me the offset that I'm looking for, but I won't know for sure until I get them........pray for me. They better work cause they ain't cheap and are pretty rare even in germany. Keep in touch. Tom Mr.FRU-T-Pants 06-09-2004, 07:11 AM I've decided to do the same, although I'm not using a distributor, and I've decided to leave out the AC. I can't/won't reveal the details either, but I'm dropping a CMG into my baby, so I can have the 4.11 FDR instead of the OEM 3.89. It is an AAN, with a conglomeration of Audi parts, with more to come eventually, including an uprated crank, IM, and EM. But I'm sticking with the RS2 EM for now, with a modified AAN IM. Should be good for plenty of power. The goal is a 2600 pound curb weight, wet, without a driver. Also sticking with Motronic ECU. Cheers, Patrick |
