I recently sold my '96 A4 to the dealer and test drove a '99 A4 2.8 tip and as usual, it was as tight as a drum. I was concerned with a vibration at idle speed I never felt with the '96 engine. Does anyone have any feedback on this. Was I driving a bum car? I could really feel it in the steering wheel when we came to a stop. It was quite annoying! About a week later, I drove the '99 328 and it was smooth as silk. The jury is still out and I have gotten my deposit back on the A4. I still am deciding between the two cars. I may just wait for 2000, but if Audi A6's the A4.. then I am outta here!!

When my 1.8T was brand new, I noticed significant vibration in the steering wheel - which annoyed me too. Fortunately after a few weeks, it dissappeared. One can only hope the same would happen on the one you tested.
Tom
1.8TQMS Silver/Ecru

One A4 that I test drove had the problem so bad that it created a noticable buzz. But the problem actually began to dissipate a few miles from the dealership. My A4 now has 3.5K mi. on it and is running pretty smoothly with only a faint vibration at certain rpms and speeds (this could be torque converter related and plagues many modern vehicles).
