My temperature guage (oil temp, lower left small form factor)'s lighting has failed. As I use this gauge very often, and almost constantly watch it for the first ten minutes of each drive, this is bad. Doubly bad, because in Autumn with the large change in temperature from daytime to nighttime means that adjusting one's driving style to the engine temperature for the first couple minutes is even more important at night. Anyone changed the bulbs? Seems like a small thing to go to the dealer for.
Cameron
I think it is absolutely worth going to the dealer for. Be forewarned, though, I had a problem with one of my gagues and they had to replace the entire instrument panel. Took a couple days to do.
Good luck
If you still have a warranty, take the car to the dealer. The dealer should have this bulb in stock, and it should only take 15 minutes (I have taken my insturment pod out several times myself). You could wait until you need an oil change and have it done then, or if you are taking your car in for the recall.
Christian J. Long

Hi,
This may be irrelevant..but I had lost instrumentation lighting on my VW Jetta Gl (88) TWICE.
The cost per occurence :
Bulb --> $1.50
Labor --> $ 98.00 (Yikes..!!!!)
You may be motivated to go to the dealer within the warranty period.....!
Kandiah
A4 QM '97
