I had to laugh (quietly to myself, but I also pittied the poor young Audi owner) - stock 1.8T B5 w/ sport suspension and the Dunlop 8000's could not get over the snow "speed bumps" in the parking lot that had formed during the day (around 6-8" fell at the base during the day). Meanwhile a RWD Ford Taurus wagon (didn't see the tires, but had to be snows of some sort) 2 cars over easily took off for home.

I took the gallon jug of sand we always carry in the Jeep, poored a little behind each tire and away the little Audi went. The owner was amazed a what a little sand could do. I politely told him why he was stuck and told him snow or even M+S tires were essential in the snow. FYI - he would've been fine 2 miles down the mountain as the road was clear (at least at 4:30).

Just walking through the parking lot that day, I counted 5 A4's with summer tires on. Interesting that people living in the PNW who go to ski resorts don't know any better.

but we still found plenty of nice runs - K2 Face, Boondoggle, a small hike to lower Exterminator, etc. Plus it just snowed hard all day long - about a foot or more during the day. We had a great time, but bored of the lower mountain by 1:00. Shhh - the last run of the day my wife wanted to hike to the top, so we hiked up and made one run down from the top - I can't even describe what an epic run that was. A great day, but you had to stay on the leeward side of the crests where the wind was dumpin' all the snow.

I am planning to attend an event there and I have never driven on snow before. How's the parking lot there and will all season tire work?

Thanks!

just remember, Quattro only helps you if you are putting power to the ground. It has no benefit when you are braking or have your foot off the gas :) My advice is to go up there and find an empty snow covered parking lot and test out your car and get used to it in the snow. HAVE FUN! :)

although I am not sure if the Snoqualmie ski area parking lot will be empty in the weekend. This is my first winter season with the Audi and it's tough to find a nearby place to get used to snow driving without getting up to the mountains.
