I'm a new owner of an 06 A4 Avant 3.2 and would love to get some feedback from all the kind experts and wiseguys hereabouts.

So my wife went out and started the car, closed the door to brush off the snow, and was locked out when she tried to re-enter. I come out with my remote and I too am locked out. Manually in the driver's door is a no go. Tried the valet key - nothing. After about a half an hour I am able to turn the key and turning it counterclockwise unlocks the driver's door and then the remote works as normal. This has happened twice now. Both on cold days for what it's worth.

So is this normal? Dealership service knew nothing about it and couldn't help. This here thread http://forums.audiworld.com/a5/msgs/28547.phtml says it is a normal security feature to prevent carjacking.

I realize you're not necessarily supposed to warmup these cars, correct? Just get in and slowly drive. But on a brutally cold morning like this, with a car encased in ice... well old habits die hard. Thanks.

It's extremely dangerous for the car to lock itself like you described...imagine a kid left in the car pushing and pulling on things...they could hurt themselves or have a medical emergency, and the only way to help them is to smash the windows!

I would park the car at the dealer (once you do get it going), hand over the keys, and tell them to FIX THE FOOKIN' THING!
If this means replacing the whole car, well, that's what it fookin' means!
They just are not trying hard enough.
Get them to call Audi Canada if neccessary.
This is not some stupid, mindless thing; it a question of safety.

Don't idle for longer than 30 seconds; just take it easy it until it does warm up.

nt.

:)

Actually, on my S, when the car is on and the drivers door open, I CANNOT lock that door - if I press the lock button, all others will lock but not the drivers. I guess that's a failsafe against locking your keys in your car.

Saw an accident happen infront of me. Put car in park, went out to check if the two cars infront of me were ok. Asked them to move their cars to a safe spot as it was a major road and can be dangerous. Tried to get back into my car, LOCKED! You can only imagine how embarassed I was... It's a known problem. Dealer said they can fix it, I just never had the time to. So I just have to make sure I press the unlock button whenever I leave the key in the ignition.

my guy always steps on it, locked me out once at the gas station. it took me few minutes to make him move & open the doors...
