Found it on the kitchen floor, and can't figure out what the heck it's for... looks familiar too, but I can't place it! Aargh!

Hmmm actually that looks like the same thing that is used for my belt-driven garage door opener to connect the belt to some other hardware.

Our friggin' one year old pulls on anything he can get his hands on, so maybe it's from some kitchen appliance...

I took the bike in because one of the links in the chain were loose, and the part that was missing was this one! DOH!
I never knew that there's such a thing as a master chain link, which has the same pieces as all the other links, PLUS this extra clip. So I never clued in when you suggested it might be from the bike chain links, because this master link still had the same pieces as all the other links, but was just loose.
I learned something new today! Mystery solved! I hate finding parts that I have no idea what they belong to!
