View Full Version : Squeaky brakes - is that necessarily bad?

Car has about 30k on it and the brakes are squeaking slightly when coming to a stop... not always, but usually when slowing down from around 30/40k to a stop. Dealership told me a while ago that it's just the nature of the brakes and that squeaking will go away if you slam on the brakes to clean them up. That doesn't seem to do anything for me though.

They work great... so should I just leave them, or be concerned and bring the car in? How long do pads generally last on an auto?

I have this from time to time, seems to be the brake pad material. Right now, it's fine but sometimes, especially more recently, it's louder than a TTC bus stopping when I brake lightly but apply a bit more pressure, it's gone. Maybe got some crud on the pad I need to blast off with a pressure washer.

... So your car ends up sitting in a shop for a few weeks?
