new 18's for next summer.

I was running 16" oem alloys with winters but I sold them in light of my recent decision to purchase new summer rims.

Don't know if this helps you out any.

If you order from tire rack, maybe we can order together and hopefully save a little on shipping?

so my vote would be to get 17 inch winters and upgrade to better alloys for summer next season. I put OZ Ultraleggera's on my Santorin Blue S4, in titanium silver, and they look really good. I pondered going to 18 inchers for summer but our Calgary roads are just awful. Even 17 inchers with 45 profile tires gives a hard enough ride as it is. One bad pothole can ruin a 18 inch wheel with a 40 series tire on it.

I like Nokian products for winter. In fact, the Nokian WR is just about perfect for the quattro drive Audi as it is capable of sustained high speeds in summer also. You get such a high level of grip from the quattro drive that aggressive snow tires just aren't necessary. Nokian WR are optimized for braking, they claim, and I believe that is true after many miles of using both the WR and the Hakka Q's on various cars. In fact, I had a set of the original Hakkapelitta's (Finnish for Reindeer?) back in the mid 80's and they wer epretty phenomenal brakers back then. Nokian tires are also quiet, quieter than the Michelin or even the Pirelli winters.

Braking performance is pretty much the benchmark for winter tires. Really, who cares how quickly you can accelerate in deep snow or on ice? What you want is winter tires that can really put the anchors out. Nokian are pretty much unbeatable for stopping control.

Pirelli Snow Sport or Sottozero and Michelin Alpin are also top notch but much more expensive than any other brands. Gislaved (Swedish) make excellent winter tires on a par with Nokian pretty much. Volvo dealers sometimes have a deal on Gislaveds.

The old school thinking that narrow winter tires are better and alloys can't endure winter weather is way out of date. Alloys are getting so cheap they are also more economical because you don't need wheel covers. Often you need an extra set of shorter wheel bolts for steel wheels. All things considered steel wheels for winter are just not sensible anymore.
