Just got a call from my credit card company -- someone cloned my credit card and used it at 4 different gas stations in northern Toronto... so they just cancelled my card.
On Monday, someone cloned my dad's debit card and took out $500, then tried for another $500 but where denied, that's when the bank phoned him.
This all happened in roughly the same area - Jane / Keele / Hwy7 / Steeles.
Anyone else hit by this crime spree?

Unfortunately everything on my credit card looks familiar.
I shred every piece of document I have before it goes out to the garbage. There are people that will rumage through garbage to find personal ID, bank accounts, etc.

They obviously have a reader covertly installed somewhere which allows them to capture the card numbers as well as the pin codes.

The debit fraud stuff happened to a guy I know last week of April
Got cash, balance was ok, went to see a movie, after the movie @ 11pm, needed cash, insufficent funds, called customer service. The customer service guy told him someone at Jane and keele area had just get $500 from his account 10 min earlier.

aparently, these fraud guyz had disguided a tiny camera and placed it in a flat box with had CIBC logo all over it. The box was placed just over the screen for the ATM with the camera looking down as you enter you pin. it also picks up your card number as you put the card in the slot or remove it. Very unnoticable because it bears the logo for the bank which's ATM you are using

told me they had reason to believe somebody had counterfieted my debit card and said that it was deactivated until i went to the bank to re-pin it. luckily no money was ever taken out, but after talking to my neighbor, i found out there was a couple people at gas station here in guelph that were doing it. they had you swipe your card through the machine and enter your pin (that was going to their machine). you got an error message and then you had to do it again, that was going to the real system. don't think i had ever been to that gas station, so who knows where it really happened. went to the bank and got a completely new card and pin. got lucky on that one.
