View Full Version : ok, just got back from the mtl car show and I gotto say that i really dislike the B7 steno_0 01-20-2005, 05:57 PM looks just like in the pics and the ass and the nose does not sit right with me...I just gonna give it some time i guess....I do like the 2.0T though! steno_0 01-20-2005, 06:15 PM

Jet Jockey/A4 Pilot 01-20-2005, 06:34 PM I have some, mainly Porsche and Audi. steno_0 01-20-2005, 06:40 PM The stock 1.8T just doesn't cut it IMO. steno_0 01-20-2005, 06:45 PM Jet Jockey/A4 Pilot 01-20-2005, 07:09 PM Won't cut it for me either. I just assume get a well proven and reliable 1.8T and chip it and you are right there with the new 2.0T FSI. When you consider that the transverse 1.8T produced 180 Hp and that in Europe the B6 A4 could be powered by a 190 Hp version of the 1.8T, that's only 10 Hp less then the 2.0T, I find the power output of the new motor sub par. Take into consideration that the 1.8T in the TT produced 225 Hp in stock form, again making this new motor really weak. Also, all the hoopla about the 2.0T or the new V6 3.2l motor running the latest and greatest in fuel injection technology, the FSI system, is only that a hoopla or window dressing, because here in North America, the stratified portion, or the lean fuel burning cycle of the FSI system won't be activated because of the fuel quality. So in other words we a paying and not getting the true and full benefits of the FSI system. One more thing to think about. The new motor comes with a Garrett turbo (I don't know what model yet), but the turbo, waste gate and exhaust manifold are a single assembly! Just think when one of those components breaks, the whole assembly will need to be changed, can you hear the $$$$$ falling. This also means that modding the car will be more difficult. The ECU is totally different and harder and more complicated to work with. But have no fear my friends, MTM as been working with the new ECU and motor for a while and have been testing it in the new GTI. Once again they will be the first to have products for this new motor. Finally, the new 2.0T FSI should have IMHO produce in its stock from the factory 250 Hp, minimum and the new V6 3.2L FSI should have come with a minimum of 275 Hp but closer to the 300 Hp target. Once again I think Audi went too conservative. Turbo Freak 01-20-2005, 07:13 PM Its looks even uglier than the B6, which I almost got used to ! That nose makes it look fat, I think the new nose will work better on the A3. It makes the car looks fat, but on a smaller car like the A3, it might be an advantage... Pierre steno_0 01-20-2005, 07:21 PM You don't have to chip the car to have some fun.....the stock 1.8T just didn't cut it for me right from the get go. The least that the A4 needs is 200HP IMO (BHP that is ;P, unlike some who need that at the wheels). When I see 1.8T A6's and 1.6L NA A4 in Europe I just don't understand....makes no sense driving these underpowered cars. So at least now a 200HP base line motor makes a lot more sense... steno_0 01-20-2005, 07:24 PM I have a b5 and a b6 avant. The B5 is a timeless design, but I really like the sharp edges of the b6. Turbo Freak 01-21-2005, 03:03 AM Vincent in Montreal 01-21-2005, 05:57 AM I think the new front end really kick ass, it's just the rear that bugs me a bit. MasterB 01-21-2005, 06:11 AM I think 'for the average consumer', the 2.0FSI is fine, even great, right out of the box. Not everyone needs (or should have) more than 200hp on tap at any given moment, imho... I would agree that Audi went conservative again, but seeing as it's a new motor in its introduction year, it seems they always want to leave themselves more room over the next few selling years to give people incentive to buy a new Audi... ...you'll probably see an S-Line 2.0 FSI with +hp at the end of the year, and then the following year the A4 will get that power, and the S-line will be bumped, etc, etc. I'm also confident that MTM will be able to squeeze an easy 240-250hp out of the motor will little more than a chip. You're talking stock B5 S4 numbers here (a lot of smiles were made with that car). "...the lean fuel burning cycle of the FSI system won't be activated because of the fuel quality" Are you 100% sure about that? I mean, I know California's 91 is "craptane", but will the function not be turned on if it senses decent fuel? (I can't say I've read enough B7 FSI tech to understand how that works) Turbo and EM combo: yup, that's interesting, and will cost folks large $$$$ should they need to get it repaired out of warranty, but hey, who owns Audis out of warranty and want to pay those repair costs ;) Sure, you won't be able to slap a K04 on a stock EM and get 270hp, as you could with the B6, but I think you'll see more kits like APRs GT28RS with custom EM included to bolt up differing turbo setups, etc... ...not so much as 'more difficult' for the average enthusiast, but definitely 'more money'. 2.0FSI looks good, and has potential imho. Jet Jockey/A4 Pilot 01-21-2005, 07:50 AM Produce 225 Hp. There is no way in my book that Audi could not at least match that number right out of the box. Bigger displacement, bigger turbo, newer and better fuel injection technology for what a mere 10 Hp over the Euro version A4! Give me a break. The A4's competition can be bought with anywhere from 250 Hp to almost 300 Hp so even the new V6 FSI is way underpowered and some of these cars even come with AWD systems. The problem with DI motors (I am told), whether Diesel or the new FSI is the high content of sulphur in our gas here in North America, so we don't really get a true or fully operational FSI motor here, period. I'm not worried one bit about MTM's futur with this motor, they may be the only ones in the long term that may be able to give different kits for this new motor. As far as bolting on another, yet bigger turbo, we will have to see which unit is on the car in stock form and see if any other turbo can be adapted to the exhaust manifold but I'm skeptical because I'm told it is a piece unit, so if you change the turbo you also need to change the manifold, but we will see in time. As far as APR is concerned, they better get their act together. They still can't get the B6 running properly (how many versions of their software are they up to for the B6) and I would not hold my breath that they get the FSI motor running properly for a while. |
