car started up no problem,wipers on the other hand needed an hour to warm-up before completing a cycle across the windshield !!

The car started just fine, but the liquid crystal displays were a tad on the slow side. No engine heater but I do use synthetic. How much fuel was in your tank ? Did you fully depress the accelerator pedal on second attempt ?
