I think it has to be over 1 year old at least, then you can import it here. If you buy a car new there, you'll have to wait a year before you can import it here.

I've heard the procedures aren't too bad. A friend of mine bought a '95 540i 6-sp for cheap off Ebay a year ago, and he has able to drive it back from Chicago a few weeks after he bought it. You'll need all the documents and proof of sale, and you have to send the paperwork ahead of time to the boarder you'll be crossing.

And once you get the car in Canada, you have a period of time (30 days?) to convert the car to Canadian spec, mainly retrofitting DRL.

Btw, cars like B5 avants are generally not importable, eventhough the sedans are sold here, but I'm sure you know that already.

So what're you thinking of getting?

BMW M3 for second car maybe! I think all BMW dealers here in Calgary are ridiculous in terms of their used car pricing. That's why I am exploring the idea of buying from the US.

I agree that pricing on used cars, especially on specialty vehicles such as S and M cars, are a bit high in Calgary.

So e36 or e46?
