it should be ok for our winters...right? I can get my hands on 3 cases of Mobil 1 0-40.. $9.00 a litre. that should last me about a year :-)

I think 9 bucks is reasonable given 5w30 at crappy tire is 7 bucks.

...and I had a big argument with DFC service when I brought it in for the break-in oil change at 4000 km. When I asked for synthetic, they put in 15w-50, because 'some customers complain of excessive consumption' (I bet)

When I freaked, they substituted Ow-40 Mobil 1 that they keep in stock for Boxsters.

That was late last winter. One oil change and 17000 km later (including some pretty hard runs), I have experienced negligible oil consumption, and the engine has 'settled in' quite nicely.

P.S. I think the dealer charges about $11 per litre.

No, but I'd like to, where can you buy it in Canada?

Specifically Montreal, Quebec? ( Mobil 1 0-40)

At first, he didnt think it existed. then I had him check with his supplier of Mobil (which is Esso Canada). He called me back and said he got 3 cases for me. So if there's a Mr. Lube in Montreal, try there. only $8.80 a litre! If I imported Amsoil from the U.S., I think it'd be close to double that.

Call your local Esso oil and lube centre, you may have to call their tech support or customer service line for some local details.

I am looking at $7.10 per litre from Esso Oils and Lubricants in Ottawa for Mobil1 0W40. Case of 6L is $41.40. Prices should be similar at all locations. This is a retail store, not a wholesaler. Phone number there is (613)723.2533.

And yes, you should be safe to use it, especially in the winter. I'd be more worried about using it in extreme heat than in extreme cold.
