the sidewalls on the 225 will be softer than the 205 because the sidewall is bowed-in (on the 225) with a 7" rim making it more "springy". My Boxster has 225s on 7" rims (at the back). This combo not only looks bad (IMHO), but has too much sidewall flex. I run 225 track tires on 7.5" rims (on my Avant), and the combination is ideal.

More questions on CHIPS...then I'm doin it!!
I have narrowed it down to Three!
Garett APR Wett

APR does have that cool logo hat.....

Here is my question....Why should I go with any one of these guys....are all chips going to do the same thing....200HP and the torque increase??
Also how do I get in touch with Garrett
OH yeah....what is this that I read on one of garetts postings.....His chip is the only one for a "tiptronic"??????????? Dosnt the S4 come with tiptronic (if you want it, WHY??) It has way over 200 hp and way more torque.
I have a tiptronic (no flames, Wife made me get it, again no flames) 1.8T Q --- Is it Garett for me only???? That wouldnt be a bad thing.
Help me out.
Thanks
David

All the chips will more or less do the same thing - give you more power and torque. WHEN it gives you that oopmh is up to the programming. Some chips give better low-end torque while some give more high...etc etc. (Don't know which chip does what - so don't ask)
As far as Garrett being the only manufacturer that does tiptronic - Untrue.
All of them will work with tiptronic. Some manufacturers make 'quick-tip' chips that will make the shifts of the tiptronic faster. But that isn't really necessary. If you have a tip, you're not going to receive any gains from quick-tip to replace a manual. With a tip or auto, you can't play with the clutch and rpms to get the performance you may want - but you're not necessarily doomed. A chip will still do wonders for the 1.8T even with a tip. Perhaps what garrett meant was that they specifically made a differently programmed chip to 'work best' with a tip. APR does that too. And so does MTM (I think). I don't think Wett does.
I have a tiptronic and I just got my 1 bar APR v3 on Wednesday. It works great with my tip - very smooth shifting and no pinging at WOT. And if you're unhappy, most tuners will gladly 'tweak' your chip to accomodate your tastes and transmission (at least APR told me they would.)
One thing to consider though - the tiptronic transmission (from what I heard from 'rumors' around this forum) is rated to handle 220 ft-lbs. of torque. APR's newest version (3.0) puts out 245 ft-lbs. Whoa! I didn't realize this until after I got the chip. I've been driving my car hard and the transmission shifts smoothly but I will be getting in touch with APR soon to ask them about this. If it becomes an issue, I may send the chip back so they can tone it down a little to less-aggressive settings. If you decide to go with APR and are paranoid about your transmission, I'm sure they'll send you a less aggressive chip at your request. Right now, the APR chip seems to be the rocket of all chips just going by the numbers. But honestly, I've been on a friend's A4 with tip and an MTM chip and it feels the same. I just didn't go with MTM because they wanted $1100 for chip w/ spare ECU.

email me if you have any questions/need more advice. I'll be happy to help you in your quest to chip 'cause I've been there and have found this forum EXTREMELY helpful. Otherwise, good luck and hurry up and chip already! Santa's coming soon - you're A4's not going to catch him without a chip! :~)
