View Full Version : AUDI refused warranty rotor replacement because of Mintex pads - any else experience this? nealr 11-10-1999, 06:43 AM ... mac 11-10-1999, 07:38 AM Stephen Kormilo 11-10-1999, 07:46 AM Raymond, Did you get a recall letter from Audi? If so, when? Stephen, 98.5 2.8QM Raymond 11-10-1999, 08:22 AM ...but when I called Audi/VW Canada, they said I don't need one. Has anyone in Canada/Toronto received the letter because the impression I got from talking to them is I won't even get one. The number I called is 1-800-822-2834 (Audi Client Relations) Raymond. Satch 11-10-1999, 11:26 AM to receive any notice. I only received a standard call from Audi to inquire about the service I received from my dealership. Nothing about any recalls. I'm not familiar with the problem, but if it's not life threatening perhaps we can sit tight. BTW, I'm in Winnipeg and I haven't received a recall letter. Stephen 98.5 2.8QM Bob 12-10-1999, 11:34 AM $500 later, I'm back to where I started, dust and all (not including the $200+ to install them in the first place). They wouldn't buy the OEM in europe approach. Pretty frustrating ... James 12-10-1999, 11:47 AM MartinR 12-10-1999, 12:10 PM $500 sounds outrageous though - The A4 rotors are the same as VW GTI VR6 - I think all four rotors only cost like $120 - It's a very simple job to replace them yourself. Bob 12-10-1999, 12:16 PM I replaced the pads too as I didn't want to deal with this again (I had thrown away my originals). The car has 28K miles and 15K on the Mintex pads. Bob 12-10-1999, 12:18 PM Jon 12-10-1999, 12:30 PM they would void the warranty because non-OEM pads may cause more wear on the rotor than a stock pad. So, all aftermarket pads void the brake pad/rotor warranty. It's a pain, but with DOT approval processes for cars, a manufacturer has to stay straight and narrow. I can understand this because it is VERY cut and dry. Not like a claim that the brake warranty is voided because of aftermarket wheels. That is BS. But I can understand this. Jon '96 A4qs HJohn 12-10-1999, 12:47 PM I'm glad for your post. I was seriously going to do it. But I'll clean those suckers awhile longer before risking $500. Ben 12-10-1999, 02:18 PM That is is bunch of BS. Read the section of TAP's website on warranty issues. They cannot deny you your warranty because of aftermarket parts, it's against the law if they do. The burden of proof is on them, they have to prove that those brake pads did the damage 100%. This does assume however that rotors are covered under your warranty. Also the Special Equipment Manufactures Assoc. (SEMA) has fought hard to protect thess rights. If you feel like fighting this pile of **** contact them. If i were you i would do it, it will help us all out in the long run. We cannot let these dealers keep getting away with this. Know your rights! JayP 12-10-1999, 03:11 PM Kevin K 12-10-1999, 05:13 PM Bob 12-11-1999, 03:53 AM donp 12-11-1999, 04:44 AM Audi advantage includes EVERYTHING except for tires.
