Really. I test drove the 2.8TIP and if you drive it hard, the car will 'learn' your driving style and if you push it, the tip will wait up to redline to shift. If you grandpa the car (especially a 1.8T), it will shift early and drive like a slug. I played around with this 'driver behavior learning' thing with my car and I found it annoying sometimes - good thing it's a TIP and you can manually select if you want. JChon 12-09-1999, 12:37 PM I had my car for three weeks now and I was a bit skeptical about this "adaptive shifting". For one week I drove most of my miles in Tip mode. Well one day I just put the car in automatic and started down the street. I immediately noticed that the shift points had changed. The shifts would occur at 3,000 instead of the ~2,000 when I drove the car off the lot. It looks like it works. A follow up question - is there way to "reboot" the tip computer if you don't like the shifting behavior? larryV 12-09-1999, 01:11 PM But then again, by doing that you might lock out the radio. If you 'reset' the adaptive TIP, it would be useless because it will keep learning how you drive anyway. It 'learns' your driving style only in auto mode (I'm pretty sure) - not in TIP mode. If you want lower shift points, drive easy on it for a while, grandpa it. It will learn. Then when you step on it again, it will relearn... so there's really no point. |
