Anyone seen the new A4? Just read about where you can see official pictures on one of the Passat forums. Look @ www.vwvortex.com. They've ruined the A4!!!! It looks like a damn Buick or something. Those folks at Audi need to get a clue. You'd think with the new TT, and the A6 that they'd know what the public is looking for from Audi. Then they do some **** like this!! Now people will wonder....Is that an Audi A4 or Audi 100?
-Sean
1.8t StageIII

VWVortex

I think it looks more "sedan like" then the current A4. I hope I'm wrong but I'm pretty disappointed with the A8 also. Maybe I overreacted initially but I was hoping that the next BMW Audi rematch would be won by the Audi. At this rate.....I doubt it

I agree about the more "sedan look". I thought the same thing when I saw the pictures. The A4 was the first 4 door I ever bought and part of what I liked about it was the lack of the "sedan look". I think the front end mods make the car look less agressive.

Unless I'm dreaming, the new A4 i've seen is so similar, the general public won't be able to tell. I , however like the changes; they tend to make it look a little sleeker than the current model.
If you're referring to the 01 model, I agree..that's why I'll be purchasing a late 00 version!
Bet me that this car has been weighed down. I remember reading that they used to do that alot in car commercials. That doesn't look like non-sport ride height to me.
Bill

...that makes it SUCK?
Other than the subtle cosmetic updates (which I listed along with others on the board yesterday) what do you see in the picture that makes it so dramatically different from the current model?
Most people aren't even going to notice the mid-year changes.
Rob O

Yes, unless the camera has distorted the front, it does look less sporty

I would say that the ocean is pretty dramatically different than the desert in the back ground of the older model.
Other dramatic differences:
1. The sunroof is open on the older model (what good is the new model if the sunroof isn't open??)
2. The lights are on in the newer model (DRL's?? No thanks, who needs lights on during the day?)
3. The wheels are different. Who wants those old 5 spoke wheels anymore.
4. The windows on the new model are not tinted. I want the tint like on the older model shown.
5. Different wheels?
Those are all pretty dramatic differences, don't you think Rob? When you look at those, you can totally see where Sean is coming from.
Matt

I mean, I love my 98.5 A4, but it looks like they smoothed out the rounding of the hood down by the grill, and by the front. I think it looks sharp.
Doug M.
98.5 2.8

Are the front fenders, hood, and grill a little different? I looks like there is less distance from the bumper to the hood, and the hood is more steeply raked and flatter. Can't be seen in this picture, obviously, but I did notice a slight difference in the trunk lid also. All in all though, there's nothing dramatic. Either way it's an awesome looking car. I do really like the new bumpers and the low mounted fog lights though! :-)
Charles
...that this car is a Euro model. They probably don't even offer the suspension there that we get standard here. The Europeans would not go for it. You can probably get any wheel you want with any package too! :-)
Charles
- You can see that the VIN numbers are different, showing that the newer model is actually a LATER year, meaning that it hasn't been around as long as the older model, and God only knows what kind of things can go wrong with a NEWER car. Too much risk, if you ask me.
Doug M.

You have your A4, that should suit you enough shouldn't it? Just because a new model comes out with some changes that you do not have doesn't mean that you should be griping about the new model, because to me there is no subtle changes that make it look like a "darn Buick"

After visiting the VWVortex, I would have to agree that the hood is flatter, which takes away from the A4's character; at least they kept the grille. Also, I noticed that the rear door looks much closer in size to the front than on previous models. This might be my imagination but this could indicate the A4 has grown in length as well? I compared it to a few photo's in the gallery I'm convinced the rear doors are longer. And I would agree about the rear badge placement - very poor styling points there. Over all, the car still looks good but I'd debadge the rear or relocate them.
HermanH
98.5 Passat 1.8tm

If the S4 is using the old design, perhaps Audi intentionally made the 99.5 A4 more "sedan like" for those who are looking for a sedan. For the sports car enthusiast, they will have the S4 available.
