I have a 98.5 2.8QTipS and recently noticed the right side of the two seperator bars on the the trip computer display are fading, completely asymetrical to the other side of the bar. It looks like the LCD may be going out, even though it hasn't affected the data in the center of the display (yet). Has anyone experienced this? I'm not quite sure if I want them to tear open my entire dashboard just to fix two faded seperation bars, but does the warrenty cover it nonetheless?
Danilo

The warranty covers EVERYTHING (apart from your tires blowing out and other "stupid" stuff). Go to your dealer and have them fix it.

My LCD is fading in spots as well, however mine is along the left hand side. Pretty weird. I will have the dealer look at it next time it is in. No biggy. If is bad, I am sure they will replace it gratis.

I've noticed that the right side is begining to fade also.
Even though I'm going in soon to get the remote range fixed, I might wait to see if it continues to fade.

If the trip computer display is bad, they will replace the entire instrument cluster. The odometer on the new one will be set to where the old one left off, so that won't be a problem. The cluster can be removed very easily - just pull off the trim above the steering wheel, remove 2 screws, and pull it out. Your dealer can also easily check the function of ALL of the LED segments at once with their VAG 1551 or 1552 tester.

Same here going on both sides and also affecting the text on the left hand side of the display(CD/radio info). It seems to be more evident after the car has been sitting out in the sun all day.
I'll probaby have it looked at when I go in for my 15K
-randy
Thanks a lot for the info.
How bad was your display before you had it replaced? Where did you go do it? Where they very willing to do it?
