There are more knowledgable people here. I am new to the A4 scene, about 6 months (replacement for my 94 SAAB 900S). But...
Yes, I have shined them on a garage door and seen the different patterns.
Do a search for "euro" or "lights" and see what you get. It seems changing the US style headlights (which we have) to the "European" lights is a common thing to do. The new 99.5 model comes with Euro style headlights. I have not checked into if these are the "real" euro lights or just US look alikes. Maybe someone else can answer that.
Many people also put brighter bulbs in the existing lights. However, I am not convinced that would help much. I still think it is the pattern of the lens. The dim drivers light (I beleive) is "working as designed" to no blind oncomming cars.
Clair, Llytec and Greedspeed all sell replacement bulbs and headlights. Regular headlights range between $400-$500 per pair. Xenons are very expensive and not an easy retrofit, and again not convinced they are that much better. Be aware all the replacement headlights I have found loose the worthless built in fog lights, not an issue with me. They are truely worthless.
I will change to something. I just have not had time to research it and decide on what.
BTW, I am also thinking about chipping it also after the first of the year.
